Situated 80 km north east of Yangon, Bago makes a perfect day trip. Bago was the ancient capital of Mon Kingdom in the 15th century. It is home to a big reclining Buddha image (Shwe Tha Lyaung Pagoda) and the golden Shwemawdaw Pagoda, a notable landmark in Bago. The royal palace of Bayint Naung, who conquered the largest empire in South East Asia, is also one of the town’s attraction.
